Samish Island Heron Nest Count
  November 27, 2012
Ten staff and volunteers volunteers ready for the yearly count of the nests at the Samish Island heronry.
Sign in, introductions, instructions and get the equipment.
Binoculars and a flexible neck are good.

We also have record book, hammer and nails  and metal tags to put on new trees with nests, and colored flagging to identify counted trees.

There are upwards of 100 trees and 400 nests.
Here we go!!!!
We divide into three groups.  It takes a bit to get a group organized - who will count, who will record, which way do we go - but soon the work begins.
Lots of nests!  Way up there!  Some easy to spot, others hiding.
