Nearly 45 people - staff, volunteers, parents, and students (Mt Vernon Immaculate Conception Regional School 7th and 8th graders) came out on a "threatening" day to remove tree protectors from 4 and 5 year old trees. Got a good orientation and then headed off to work. It was a hard job - most were both grown in and silted in from flooding. Clippers were often required.
This was a team effort between the Skagit Land Trust as site owner and Skagit Fisheries Enhancement Group as event coordinator and manager.
Some - with boots - went across the creek to work and it was slippery, rocky, and sometimes too deep! We were all very careful.
