Samish Island Ivy Pulling
December 01, 2018
A big group of 19 volunteers and staff for the Skagit Land Trust came out on this pretty day to remove still more invasive ivy vines from the Samish Island property that includes the currently abandoned heronry.

Mostly we put our heads down and worked!!!

Above is an old pile of ivy from previous efforts.  We hauled ours in bundles and made even more piles!  Lots of them.

Below is one (of many) old nests that have fallen or blown down.  There were also a very few egg remnants from the summer of 2017 nesting.

Here is a VERY large old downed wild cherry tree which was covered in ivy.  These two fellahs did quite a number on it.

It was not ALL work.  Many of us stayed and made wreathes from our ivy and some boughs and holly twigs - with colorful additions.  Here is one in progress - below - and a beautiful finished one!
And My OH My and Ho Ho Ho!!!
Look what the property owners set up for us - their way of thanking us for helping maintain and improve the land!
THANKS EVERYONE!!
