20 of us - staff, interns, Americorps, and volunteers - came out on a breezy day to do some planting of native trees and shrubs.
We met at the church and walked up the road to the upland portion of the property.
Samish Island - Flower Farm
  Planting  -  February 01, 2020
We all got introduced and learned a bit about the property, the Skagit Land Trust, and our work for the day.
We'll be digging holes to plant "bare root" shrubs and firs and also sticking in a lot of willow sticks in the wetter parts of the area.
Here is a demonstration.
A small group headed out with willow stakes and the rest gathered conifers and shrubs to fill this area - recently cleared of blackberries - with native plants.
Many piles of the cleared out blackberries!
Willow sticks go right into the boggy areas!  It is wet work.
Dryer land - dig a hole and plant a fir.
Everybody has a little bit different style, but it is all bending and getting your hands muddy!
Protectors go on some of the plantings - here is one technique!!!
The result is quite artistic!
You can see a few of the protectors in place here.
There is a lot of stuff and materials and of course, the paper work.  But what a reward for the great work!!!
Thanks everybody!             Several hundred new trees and shrubs!
