Utopia - Blackberry Removal
April 05, 2025
A diverse group of about 40 folks, on this nice Saturday morning, to work on cutting back and digging out invasive blackberry along the creek.

Two Land Trust Staff and 7 volunteers formed them into small groups and assisted them to tackle assigned areas.
Healthy survivor from last year planting.
Big job well done.  THANKS Everybody!

Plenty of tools of choice and gloves.

Never have seen a shovel get broken on the first try!
Zone #3 workers.
Pile canes and roots on cardboard to prevent re-sprouting!
Maybe a later work party to go after these when they grow up.
A BIG root!
It is SPRING!
A healthy stand of trees panted many years ago here.
These folks were all from a variety of local, diverse groups working to foster understanding and appreciation through experience and conversation and stories.  Most did not know many others.
Coordinated by a long-time Seattle non-profit called "Paths to Understanding" and this was their service project.
It was followed by a nice lunch and workshop program at a local church and several of us who helped today attended for a meaningful time.
