Hurn Field Tree Planting March 31, 2007
Eight voluteers, of all ages, and two Land Trust staffers planted 500 red alders at the Hurn Field elk watching area near Concrete.  The alders will provide natural protection to small conifers by discouraging elk from rubbing the conifer seedlings with their antlers to remove the velvet.

The alders will also create a more diverse habitat beneficial to wildlife and pleasing to visitors.

It was a beautiful day and the elk paid us a late visit as well!
