March's Point Heron Nest Count
DEC. 07, 2014
December 7, 2014 was another yearly trek into the great March's Point Heronry to count nests.   An experienced crew and some snacks and drinks to get us started.   Tools and materials we need too.
A most interesting hike in but finally the nests are seen - here are 40 of them! - and we get our final instructions.
Trees with nests in the previous year were tagged and flagged - with pink.
As a tree is counted and recorded, the pink is replaced by yellow.
Find a tree, look up, and count the nests in it.  Two, or three sets of eyes on each tree.
Making a careful record - tree by tree.
There are three teams at work - counting, recording, re-flagging.
There are a lot of them - some hard to see - keep looking!
