March's Point Heron Nest Count
DEC. 07, 2014  (cont.)
Some of the birds, young and old, die in the heronry.
A burled tree and one with ferns growing well up the trunk!
Many egg shells.
It seems the herons feed the chicks mostly fish, but here is a clam shell!
There is a camera up in a tree - powered by solar - that live-streams the action across to the Padilla Bay National Estuarine Reserve building during the active season!
Boundary markers.
The nests are quite "rickety"!  Some blow down in the high winds.
The road - way down there.
The heron feeding grounds and the 100-car oil train - one a day and more in the plans.  All possible precautions are essential.
